Palace and park complex in Chocianów

The palace and park complex in Chocianów (the palace, two outbuildings, and the park). Numbered among the most valuable Baroque residences in the Lower Silesian region. The beginnings of the residence date back to the 13th century when a castle was built here during the reign of Bolko the 1st, the prince of Świdnica. In 1728 the then owner Melchior von Reder began to convert the existing seat into the Baroque residence. The romantic park was created at the beginning of the 19th century, a landscape and naturalistic park was formed by adopting peat meadows adjacent to the park from the south. In this period the tree stand was completed with acclimatized and native species, the majority of which has been preserved up to present days. In the park with the area of 16.2 ha there are many monument and exemplary trees.

St Jacek’s Church

St Jacek’s Church in Pogorzeliska dating back to the 17th century. Built in the post and pan construction, the church hides inside interesting polychromies of balconies and “a palm” – a post supporting the vault, unique on the Polish scale.

“Black Ponds” range [Uroczysko „Czarne Stawy”] – located 1.5 km away from Chocianów, including a complex of old post-peat workings forming ponds with the area of 8.13ha, surrounded by mixed forests which are the entry to “Lower Silesian Forests” [Bory Dolnośląskie]. A 13 km long natural environment education path is running through this area.

“Chocianów Forests” [Lasy Chocianowskie] Protected Landscape Area – covering 57.3km2, including 44.5km2 of forest area. The Lasy Chocianowskie biking route with the length of 43km, merges hiker trails and biking routes of the Przemkowski Landscape Park with the other trails in the region.
