WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
What could the Kłodzko Valley in Poland possibly have in common
with the Republic of South Africa, California and other states,
Ireland and the Curaçao Island in the Caribbean?
The answer is: Table Mountains, in the centre of which you’ll find
the commune of Radków. It’s situated right at the state border in
the south west of Poland, and together with its Czech partner towns
it is a trans-boundary microregion.
The opportunities of treating yourself with a bite of smażony syr
(fried cheese, a traditional Czech dish) is another reason why you
should visit The Land of Table Mountains, as this place is called
by tourists.
You can use four crossing points: three tourist crossings (in Radków,
Pasterka and Ostra Góra) and one suited for vehicles in Tłumaczów.
The commune is composed by the town and 11 villages, among which
most leisure options are offered:
In Radków, the commune’s administrative centre, inhabited
by 2600 people, with an old style Market Square where Goethe himself
used to search inspiration and a local, beautifully situated artificial
lake;
In Karłów, where the main walking and bicycle routes come
together, situated at the foot of the mountains highest peak- Szczeliniec
Wielki;
In Wambierzyce with the famous St Mary’s Basilica,
as well as interesting private heritage museum and a minizoo.
Other villages also have a lot to offer: you can visit the ruins
of castles, a mill dating to 19th century, and the Sarna Palace
in Ścinawka Górna.
Recently, the traditional mountain spirit LICZYRZEPA was subsituted
by the Monkey Rock, which has become the new hallmark of the Land
of Table Mountains. This modification was inspired by Bobby the
chimp from the Wroclaw ZOO who became our new official tourism and
promotion inspector.
Other great tourist attractions are no doubt the Rocky Mushrooms
(Skalne Grzyby), the Vicious Rocks labirynth (Błędne Skały), as
well as the Road of One Hundred Curves which leads from Radków to
the resort of Kudowa Zdrój and gives you the chance to see all differently
shaped rocks. All of this is surrounded by the Table Mountains National
Park, which was created in 1993.
We are a perfect spot for active tourists: walking tours and horse-riding
lovers, cycling and mountain climbing aficionados, as well as ski
runs fans will definitely find something to do here.
In the commune, there are over 50 accomodation spots ( hostels,
guest houses, many agritourism farms, camping fields, cabins and
hotels).
PRONOUNCIATION TIPS
RADKÓW (RAT-KOOF), KARŁÓW (CAR-WOOF), WAMBIERZYCE (VAMB-YEAH-SHEESA)
As SZCZELINIEC is quite unpronunceable, use Table Mountains instead:
GÓRY STOŁOWE (GOORE STOWOFA)
COOL-TURAL RADKÓW
Radków is more than tourism, all year round you can take part in
different cultural and sport events. Here are the main ones:

event, during which local women from both sides of the border serve
traditional dishes and present Easter decorations of our microregion;
September: TABLE MOUNTAINS FAIR, also called the Borderland Week,
during which handicraft exhibitions, gigs, and a Polish-Czech film
festival are organised;
August: A PILGRIMAGE TO WAMBIERZYCE, as well as a church fair;
September: HARVEST FESTIVAL featruing local traditions;
October: INTERNATIONAL IGNAZ REIMAN FESTIVAL- classical music concerts
in the St Mary’s Basilica dedicated to Ignaz Reiman, a German composer
