Location
Gierałtowice is a quite big commune in Silesian’s province. It is
an area of over 39 km2, the half of which is ploughland, and 11%
are forests. The commune has no more than 10574 inhabitants. The
neighbourhood consists of big industrial aglomerations – Gliwice,
Zabrze, Knurów. That is why you can find some shafts and factory
chimneys while admiring the landscape. In spite of that, in the
commune there are also few picturesque and calm places.
History
The commune dates back to 1977. It consists of six villages: Bujaków,
Chudów, Gierałtowice, Ornontowice, Paniówki and Przyszowice. In
1991, according to the inhabitants’ suggestion, Ornontowice became
an autonomical commune. Since 1995 Bujaków has been dependent on
the administration of Mikołów.
The first mention of the village called Gierałtowice comes from
the end of 13th century, after the 3rd Tatar invasion. Up to the
information gathered in the church books, Chudów was developing
in 1193 – 1318. All the information we know about Paniówki were
found in notes from 1305 when it was a part of Paniowy. One of the
first information about Przyszowice also comes from 1305.
In the commune there are a lot of monuments which are symbols of
its great history. These are: the Castle from 17th century in Chudów,
that is already partly renovated or the Palace with a beautiful
park in Przyszowice.
Infrastructure
The strong diversity of the commune could be treated as
a reason of its dynamic development and the feature that makes it
attractive for investors. Along one of the borders two motorways
A1 and A 4 cross. The whole area of Gierałtowice’s commune is cut
with 150 km roads.
The communal infrastructure makes the water supply, which length
is 155 km and the gas supply – 25 km. However, just now the location
of the gas distributing network is concentrated in Gierałtowice,
but after a few years it will spread among the whole commune. Another
attractive features of the infrastructure are good conditions of
the telephone and teletype service and permanent development of
communication technologies.
Sewage treatment plants are a rare element of the communal infrastructure,
only in the neighbourhood of the public services. But in the nearest
future the building of the communal sanitary sewers and the main
sewage treatment plant in Przyszowice is planned. According to the
demands of the European Union the Gierałtowice’s commune undertakes
more and more activities to make the condition of the natural environment
better, e.g. exchanging central heating stoves for the ecological
ones, and, what is more, selecting rubbish.
The modernization of the communal structure is easier because of
the help that comes from the Union’s funds. Day after day Gieraltowice’s
commune becomes more interesting not only for investors but for
new inhabitants as well.
