Otwock, south east of Warsaw is situated in the Mazowsze Province.
It borders, the Central Valley of the Vistula River and the Garvolin
Plain, on the left embankment of the Świder River, near its confluence
with the Vistula. The town borders Józefów to the north, the municipality
of Wiązowna to the east, the municipality of Celestynów and the town
of Karczew to the south. To the west, the Vistula River marks its
natural border.
Otwock is an exceptional town. For a long time it has been renowned
as a summer health resort. It’s a short distance from Warsaw, it
has good access, and its location within Mazowiecki Natural Park,
constitute great advantages, and favour a dynamic development of
the town. The local administration attaches great importance to
increasing the level of its revenues. The local budget is increasing
each year, and 15% of it goes to investments.
Otwock enjoys auspicious conditions thanks to its natural environment.
The vicinity of the Mazowiecki Landscape Park, the picturesque locations
by the Świder River and the wealth of green and woodlands, all contribute
to making Otwock an attractive place to live. There are no industrial
plants to pollute the natural environment here.
Over the last few years, settlements and housing stock have risen
in the town, clear evidence that Otwock is an attractive place to
live and an ideal target for housing development.
In the territory of the municipality of Otwock the following types
of housing can be distinguished:
Conglomerations of multi-storey housing estates. A representative
example of it is the housing cooperative’s estates situated in the
southern and central areas of the municipality;
Single-family housing conglomerations primarily established in the
western and northern territories of the town.
Low-density private housing constructed on lands conserving their
woodland character, seen especially in the eastern part of the town.
For the last few years in Otwock, the single and multi-family housing
sector has been thriving. New housing estates are being systematically
developed. Owing to Otwock’s ongoing enthusiasm in real estate development,
investors can discover property designed for single-family, multi-family
and municipal building developments.
In order to intensification of town deveplopment, the sewage network
and water supply network are constantly extended. European Union
Funds, issued through the Cohesion Fund, will be used to leverage
the technical infrastructures of Otwock, as solicited to the European
Commission by the Environment Minister’s office, which prioritised
modernisation and extension of the water supply and sewage systems
by 2004.

Other contests include the Otwock Schools Sports Day, the International
Contest of Pole Vaulting, by the name of T. Ślusarski, as well as
numerous sports championships and contests. Those fond of tourism
and recreation can take part in rallies which follow routes traced
by the most interesting and note worthy buildings, places and events.
Lovers of music and entertainment can delight themselves with a
multitude of concerts, musical evenings and banquets, accompanied
by poetry and music. The inhabitants of Otwock have the opportunity
of being witness to some of the most prestigious cultural events
and personalities representing national achievement. Artists of
the Wielki Theater, the National Opera House, and the National Philharmonic,
are a few of the guests who have partaken in the past. The town
festivals, which are always recorded on the calendar of cultural
events, are occasions for performances by stars from the national
music stage. During the summer months, native musicians amuse visitors
to the Town Park, performing as a part of the ‘Musical Sunday Afternoons
in the Park’ program. Among the organised initiatives, many are
aimed at integrating the different creative backdrop of the town
with the region of Otwock. These include, among others, the Culture
Festival of Otwock, the International Theatre Day, the Rally of
Otwock’s Enthusiasts as well as collective exhibitions of creativity.
The stadium of the Otwock Sports Club, the sports complex TKKF
on Kopernika Street, and the swimming pool and gym facilities near
the Main Customs Board in Otwock on Kolorowa Street, are complemented
by the educational institutions and facilities within the housing
estates.
The unique microclimate, the inviting woodlands and the scenic wider
River grace Otwock as an ideal location for tourism and recreation.
To complement the rich natural diversity, adjustments to the tourist
industry have been made to provide hotels, restaurants, sporting
and recreational centres, tourist and rest centres, attracting the
more contemporary traveller. From an environmental standpoint, the
surroundings of Otwock are, second only to Puszcza Kampinowska,
the most valuable in the ambience of Warsaw. As such, the creation
of Mazowiecki Landscape Park in 1986, was a way of protecting the
23,000 hectares belonging to the administrative district of Otwock
(partly on the borders of Warsaw). The region of Otwock abounds
with ideal places for rest and recreation. The most widely appreciated
is the Świder River, which every year the inhabitants of Otwock
and surrounding areas go to relax. For tourists who wish to spend
their free time actively, there are almost 300 km of marked tourist
tracks, a few nature trails and cycling tracks. For cyclists, the
territories around Celestynów and Ponurzyca are exceptional. Diversely,
the Marshes of the Całowanie region and the Vistula meadows, in
the region of Piotrowice, Glinki and Nadbrzeż, are perfect for satisfying
the delights of bird watchers, assuring unforgettable impressions.
The woods in the region of Otwock during autumn, are carpeted in
mushrooms, and by winter can become excellent places to do cross-country
skiing.
