Plain
of Bia³ogard, where the town of 25 thousand inhabitants is placed,
is situated between two attractive geographical lands: Pobrze¿e
S³owiñskie and Pojezierze Drawskie. The town constitutes an important
communication center of the Zachodniopomorskie Province (Western
Pomerania). We possess convenient connection to other parts of country.
37 km off Bia³ogard is Ko³obrzeg, the health resort and coast of
the Baltic Sea with wide and sandy beaches. The distance between
Bia³ogard and Koszalin is 29 km and between Ko³baskowo (frontier
crossing point) and Bia³ogard is 157 km. Œwinoujœcie with a ferry
base conneccting with Sweden and Denmark is within the distance
of 158 km. Bia³ogard is surrounded with an unusually picturesque
land of thousand lakes spread over hills and forests famous for
a plenty of berries and game. On the outskirts of the town flows
the river Parsêta – an interesting route of water wanderings and
one of the most splendid rivers of Poland for anglers rich in precious
species of Salmonidae (graylings, trouts, bulltrouts).
Bia³ogard
acquired municipal rights in 1299. The town is a precious monument
considering conservd medieval configuration of the Old Town. From
the conserved monuments defence walls (from XIV century), Gothic
St Mary’s Church from XIV century, gate of Po³czyn Zdrój and Town
Hall are worthy of notice. At present a site planning of the City
Centre is under way to retain and reconstruct the historical development
of the town.
Economically active population of the town amounts to 14 thousand
actually. Industrial branches in the town are the following:
electronic industry (assembly of electronic equipment and production
of electronic components)
food industry (milk processing, forest ground cover processing,
refrigeration and storage of fruits and vegetables)
Bia³ogard
actively works together with other towns both from Poland and abroad.
The town belongs to the Modern Hanseatic League seated in Lübeck.
It participates in activities and conventions of the Hansa towns
and exchanges experiences with its German sister city of Teterov.
Since 1999, Bia³ogard has been cooperating with second town – Akniste
(Latvia). We’re also looking for parnter city from Swedish „Pomerania”
Euroregion.
