Bolesławiec – A Town Friendly To Everyone
Located in the south-western part of Poland, Bolesławiec has a good
reputation as one of the most beautiful towns in Lower Silesia.
It is situated between two rivers - the Bóbr and Kwisa, which roll
their waters amidst the biggest forest complex in this part of Poland
called Lower Silesian Coniferous Forests. Besides picturesque location,
the town's treasures are valuable historical sights, witnesses of
time going by.
The history of Bolesławiec dates back to the Middle Ages, when the
Silesian tribe of Bobrzanie settled down on the left bank of the
Bóbr River. In 1251, the town received a foundation charter from
Bolesław Rogatka. In next centuries, the town flourished thanks
to the beer brewing privilege; craft and trade were additional sources
of revenue. Contemporary Bolesławiec is a dynamically developing
industrial-service centre with such leading sectors as ceramics,
pharmaceuticals and textiles. It is apoviat seat and home to some
43,000 residents. The town's advantages include convenient location
at historical routes and now at transit roads from Wrocław to Dresden,
from the Baltic Sea to southern Europe.
Everyone will surely find here something for himself or herself.
Tourists will be captivated by interesting history, scenic nooks
and original ceramics. Investors will become convinced that it is
worthwhile to invest their capital and meet new business challenges
here.
A Meeting With The Past
A walk around the town is the best way to familiarise oneself with
everything that is the most beautiful and the most valuable in Bolesławiec.
Undoubtedly, it is worthwhile to start the walk in the Old Market
Square with Gothic, Renaissance and baroque tenement houses with
colour facades. It is right here that one can fully experience the
town’s atmosphere and become convinced about its irresistible charm.
The Town Hall building from the 16th century with a soaring tower
and beautiful portals is distinguished in the middle of the Market
Square. An equally precious thing of historical interest is the
Church of Our Lady’s Assumption and St. Nicholas, the interiors
of which feature an exquisite baroque altar from 1725, a historical
baptismal font and an ambo from the 17th century.
Inseparable elements of the landscape of Bolesławiec are renovated
fragments of keeps and battlements, interestingly blended into new
buildings, along which a historical walking route runs. Worth mentioning
are also the grand neo-Gothic edifice of the Poviat Court, the neo-classicism
building of the Miejski Theatre, and the monument to design by Karl
Schinkel erected in memory of Field Marshal Michail Kutuzow, who
died in Bolesławiec.
The town's architectonic treasure is also a 450-m-high railway viaduct
made of cut stone, and included in the group of the most interesting
historical sites of technology in Poland.
Clay – The Greatest Treasure
Bolesławiec is famous for its ceramics in Poland and abroad. Thanks
to rich deposits of stoneware clay occurring in the river basin of
the Bóbr and Kwisa, the town gained the rank of an important pottery
centre as early as the 17th century. Presently, the characteristic
goods of Bolesławiec bowls, pitchers and plates - decorated with the
use of stamping method are exported to many countries constituting
an identification mark and Ceramic Sculpture Plen-Air for almost 40
years. The fruits of these exceptional August workshops are unique
works of art created in the imagination of artists and realised in
clay.
Particularly popular is the annual Bolesławiec Ceramics Holiday, when
everyone can become convinced that not only professionals can make
jugs and participate in jolley fashioning or manual pot painting shows.
Abundant collections of Bolesławiec stoneware can be seen at the Museum
of Ceramics - the only institution of this type in Poland and one
of few in Europe.

the Stary Theatre and cinema offer lots of cultural events such
