Włocławek lies on the Vistula River and its left-bank tributary
the Zgłowiączka, in the Włocławek Valley which makes up a fragment
of the Vistula proglacial stream valley. As it is located in the
centre of the country, most of the main roads and railway routes
of national and international significance run through the town.
They connect the South with the North (Gdańsk-Toruń-Włocławek-Czestochowa-Katowice-Cieszyn)
as well as the East with the West (Brześć - Warszawa - Płock - Włocławek
- Bydgoszcz - Stargard Szczeciński - Kołbaskowo).
Włocławek today is the capital of a poviat in the kujawsko-pomorskie
province. It is a well-developed industrial centre which also provides
supply for the agricultural region. Excellent production results
of the chemical, metal processing, agricultural and food processing
industries indicate that the level of industry in Włocławek is really
high.
However, Włocławek is not only an industrial town but also an academic
centre. Several years ago a number of colleges and other academic
educational institutions were established there. It is hoped that
Włocławek - a town of such interesting history and tradition, a
place surrounded by attractive touristic areas around will be more
visible in the economic map of Poland in the years to come.
It is high time Włocławek's development opportunities were carried
into effect.
