One of the parameters that enable the assessment of profile of economy is number of economical entities registered by EKD system (European Activity Classification System). There were registered 6125 units in Kościan district at the beginning of the year 2000. The most of them were registered in the branch of “commerce and repair” - 31,6%, the following in “agriculture and forestry” - 14,5%, “building industry” - 14,3%, “production activity” - 12,5%.

The biggest saturation of economical entities is in the Town of Kościan. Either Town and Commune of Śmigiel have high indexes.

The majorities - 93% of economical entities - are the small units that hire up to 5 persons. The medium units - hiring from 6 up to 20 persons - are 3,6%. The remaining 0.3% are units that hire above 20 persons.
